The Full Story…

Welcome friend! Whale here.

I see you’ve made it to my page. Well done! Your medal is in the mail.

So what’s this all about anyway?

It all started with a sketch of a badly drawn whale (me) and a desire to start a creative habit. Something small that could be farted into existence 5 days a week and kept up consistently. With so much weird stuff going on in the world, especially at the beginning of 2020, the week-daily blog ‘The Daily Wail’ was born.

The mission was to put a sarcastic, comic spin on whatever was happening that day on the news whilst incorporating an interesting fact, a funny or interesting youtube clip and an original piece of work in the form of a poem or short write-up.

GO!

This ‘machine’ quickly put the repetitive, fearmongering news aside, and switched to single word prompts based on celebrated days of the year. Daysoftheyear.com was the website used for this, packed with all sorts of information about weird celebrations worldwide: Donut day, TV day, Fruit day, Writer’s day etc… The machine meandered along and evolved to incorporate different things along the way.

‘Cartoons In June’ started a character design stage, drawing a finished character and short story piece in a day. Then on to ‘A Sticky July’ where storyboarding the June characters to eventually become animations was the practice.

The 3 animated characters from the video above are from the prompts:

1. MilkBill The Angry Almond.

2. Rocky Road Chocolate Bar: The Rocky Road To Realisation.

3. Ballpoint Pen: Percy Has A Four Way.

All these animations will be released in 2026 and if you bought an interactive calendar, you’ll be amongst the first to see them. Aren’t you a lucky sausage!

After 300 episodes of prompted ‘The Daily Wail’ pieces I was transformed into ‘The Riddling Whale.’ The original written pieces now had a maximum length with the prompt being the answer for the reader to guess.

And here we are: Still bungling along, but steadily putting content together to poke you in the brain. This year (2026) we’ll see some more variety in the mix

Thanks for hopping on this Whale of a Journey!

Let’s see where we’ll end up next.
