Happy May! Calendar buyers and late comers. This month’s characters are all about the other side: The ‘what’s next?’ and the ‘what else is there?’
Time is a funny thing; it takes ages, it changes, it passes too quickly, there’s never enough and so on. But when do you ever take… the… time… To just sit. And be?
To look, to ponder, to switch off the old pink thinker and melt away into the sights and sounds that surround you. Ahh what a pleasure and blessing in today’s world.
For many of us these scenarios are few and far between, especially if you’re not even considering that such things are possible and beneficial.
I’ll bet that little black mirror is stealing these moments from you?
The Looker.
This fluffy fellow was drawn around 2019 – 2020.
Remember that time when the world went a little bit nuts and we were forced into taking experimental drugs that weren’t properly tested, because of a disease that was so ‘bad’ that you had to stab your brain to test if you had it? Yeah… That time.
Well, amidst the noise and weirdness that we were all experiencing, a bit of silence, a bit of solitude, a bit of soul searching and a bunch of fresh air was exactly what the doctor ordered.
For many, what came after this period was either life as usual, a drastic change if you weren’t considered ‘essential’ or a sad loss in one way or another.
The truth is out there, it’s quite confronting, but it’s out there.
Proto’s First Colours
Once you switch your TV off,
It enters another dimension.
A cold and baron wasteland,
That’s too plain, even to mention.
But Proto always dreamed,
That there was more to black, and white.
Then one day under a static sky,
He cried.
For he was right!
One of my favourite pieces from the ‘Cartoons In June’ series.
This prompt was ‘television’.
What really happens when you switch your TV off? Something that seems so alive that there is life within it: moving around, living, breathing, murdering, solving mysteries, saving the day, destroying planets. Surely it doesn’t just disappear into oblivion. Maybe there’s a version of oblivion that we cannot see.
